Our Story
Barleybean Café is a specialty and a boutique coffee shop, bakery, roastery and retailer, born and based in Austin, Texas.
We are dedicated to providing the highest grade coffee, artisanal food, and crafted brews. We partner with our purveyors, which include-many of the best coffee growers in the world, and specialty wholesalers from all around. Our concept was created to bring an authentic specialty experience to the Austin market.
We offer co-branding within other brick and mortar establishments, but creating a stand-alone concept is our main strategy. We aim to bring out the most exquisite flavors in our menu, and unique characteristics in our cup. We make beautiful products and like to share the stories behind them. Local ingredients, simple menu, and love is our mantra. We opened our doors in 2014, and have since shared great food and coffee with thousands of passionate customers.
Our Mission
Nestled in the city that has a reputation for being weird and known as the live music capital of the world, (Austin, TX) the cafe’ concept BARLEYBEAN was born.
We are dedicated to bravely pioneering the unforseen frontier of serving fine coffee and craft beers in a friendly environment. In addition, we offer a healthy choice of Paninis, smoothies, fresh squeezes, fine teas, along with specialty groceries.
We completely focus on quality, complexity and balance of what we have to offer. The long-term partnerships with our amazing local purveyors, combined with diligent refinement of our craft and vision has allowed us to be one of the best in the industry. Our Team
RYAN MOSLER - Co-founder and Master Roaster
Ryan is a co-founder and currently serves as the Master Roaster of Barleybean. He currently heads the coffee roasting and training department and also executes the duties of being the purchase manager for our green coffee. He oversees coffee training, and ensures the smooth functioning of all the coffee equipment at Barleybean . He also practices law on the side, but his passion for coffee has become an obsession which in return has driven him to make his venture into the café business with roasting being his highest and the best skill. Ryan achievements include the inception of our world class Cold Brew which is currently under the patenting process.
VERONICA RAEDY - Co- founder, Client Services Division
Veronica is co- founder and heads the Client Services Division with Barleybean, and currently serves as an operations and training manager for all the current and new locations. She is actively involved in setting up new cafes, and works from our headquarters in Austin, Texas. She has a palate for good food and enjoys drinking Cappuccino and Vodka. She excels at customer service Management and is currently working along Mohit Mehra on the CRM side for Barleybean.
MOHIT MEHRA - Co-Founder, CEO
Mohit Mehra is the visionary behind Barleybean and currently serves as the CEO of the company. He Co-founded the company in 2014 with Ryan and has actively been involved in the growth and strategy for the company. He brings over 16 years of Hospitality and management experience. He also serves as the CEO of a financial firm as well as a full service commercial real estate development company which manages the lease negotiations, development, design and construction for Barleybean. An entrepreneur at heart and visionary as a strong trait, Barleybean is his 1st love. He is adventurous, a traveler and is his middle name is “passion”.
JENNIFER COFFMAN - Head Chef, General Manager
Jennifer Coffman, has been with the company since March of 2015 and is one of the 4 pillars of Barleybean. She currently serves as the Head Chef and General Manager for Barleybean and also heads the baking division of the company. Jennifer holds a culinary management degree and has held multiple positions with the company. As of 2021, Jennifer Coffman is one of the Executive Directors of the parent company Mischief Makers LLC That owns the brands, Barleybean, Artista Rosso, Connection pizza and Bar, and Zuccari. She trained for pizza under Scott and Andrew from GoodFellas pizza NY and under Celebrity Chef, Mario Vollera for Neapolitan style. She also excels in basketball and is a fitness freak.
KATHLEEN WOOD MEHRA - Head Baker
Kate is the one of the oldest members of our café family and is one of the most prominent individuals involved in creating Barleybean. She served as the first General Manager for Barleybean and along with Jen and Ryan set up multiple locations before enrolling in Auguste Escoffier institute in Austin TX to become a baker. She graduated in 2015 and opened her own bakery where she makes the delicious pastries for Barleybean cafes. Currently she is working on the Grab and go menu for Barleybean along with Catering. She loves Iced Hazel nut coffee and her first love Bozley.. (a bichon fraise)
JOHN HIGDON - Principal Broker
John acts as a mentor to the CEO and currently is the principal broker for Barleybean. He has been with Mohit since 2008 and currently is responsible for all the lease negotiations, outsourcing the locations, inline retail, as well as working on the financial side of the project. John brings wealth of knowledge and experience to Barleybean and also owns a pizza restaurant as a family business.
SHEA JAMES
Shea James lives in the North Austin, Tx area with her amazing boyfriend, Ryan and rottweiler, Axel. She has her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Midwestern State University with an emphasis in photography. She has been self-employed and pursuing her passion for photography and marketing for 3+ years now. Her goal is to use her knowledge and skills to bring customized marketing and content creation services to local small business owners that need help promoting their products/services on social media. When Shea is not working or growing her business she enjoys hanging out with family, spending time with her BF, cooking at home, creating artwork, and taking lots of photos!
DAVID NICHOLS
David Nichols specializes in marketing, graphic design and production for print and web, as well as photography and illustration. With 37 years of experience in graphic design/marketing, his work can be seen in such diverse creative channels as advertising, product packaging, CD album covers, and corporate identity packages for clients both here and abroad. His community efforts are many with projects for such groups as Ballet Austin and the Austin Theater Alliance.
